Introduction to Project Management. All managers are now expected to introduce change to the organization. Dependent on the scale and complexity of this change it can often be described as a project. Therefore, to a greater or lesser extent, all managers are project managers. Project management is the activity of defining, planning and controlling projects. A project is a set of activities with a defined start point and defined end state, which pursues a defined goal and uses a defined set of resources. Some projects are large scale and complex, but most projects, such as implementation of a process improvement, will be far smaller. However, all projects are managed using a similar set of principles. In this module we will examine the five principles that hold good for every project large or small: Understanding the project environment

Defining the project

Managing the project

Planning the project

Controlling the project
